DCHS Marching Band

Director: Chuck Arnold

Contact Information: ext. 1424

The Marching Band is a musical marching unit organized during the summer and fall for the duration of the football season. Membership is by audition/recommendation with the Director of Bands and is open to all enrolled DCHS students in good standing. Membership requires total dedication and maximum effort and involvement in all aspects of marching, playing and performance. The marching band provides entertainment for all Varsity football games. Additionally, it performs annually before thousands of spectators at various contests, parades and pep rallies. All members of the marching band must attend Band Camp in order to maintain membership in the organization. Students who have never been a part of the DCHS marching band will also be required to attend Rookie Camp. In addition to Band Camp, the marching band rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 6:00. Special rehearsals may be called on Monday from 2:30-5:30 pm or on selected Saturdays for individuals, specific sections or the full band.

If interested in joining the DCHS Pride Marching Band please fill out both the:
Membership Contract Form and the Membership Form
Return both of these forms to Mr. Arnold in order to join the band.

Here is some general information about the positions in the band.

  • Color Guard- The color guard is a unit of a flag and rifle line that is chosen by audition each spring. The color guard is an essential part of the marching band and not a separate entity. All rules and rehearsal times apply equally to members of the color guard. The color guard may have additional rehearsal times scheduled as needed.
  • Drumline- The drum line consists of Marching Snare, Marching Tenor Drum, Marching Bass Drums and Front “Sideline Percussion”. Separate tryouts are held in the Spring for those wanting to be a part of the drumline for the following fall. The drum line has a higher commitment level in that they rehearse over the summer and extra in the Fall.
  • Indoor Drumline- This is a separate drum line than from Marching Band and they provide entertainment at selected Varsity Basketball home games. Auditions are late Fall and this commitment extends to the end of basketball season.
  • Jazz Band- This group is an after school group that begins meeting after Marching Band season is over. Auditions are held in November for the following instruments: Saxophones, Trombone/Baritone, Trumpet, Piano, Bass Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Drum Set and Mallets.
